This page will explain what Invisalign expanders are, how they work, and why they might be the ideal option for you or your child. How Do Invisalign Expanders Work? Invisalign expanders use gentle, consistent pressure to encourage the upper jaw to expand over time. The aligners are replaced periodically, following a carefully designed treatment plan tailored by Dr. Yang. This process gradually creates space in the upper jaw and aligns the teeth for optimal functionality and aesthetics. Invisalign expanders can address conditions such as: Crossbites: When the upper teeth fit inside the lower teeth. Overcrowding: To make room for permanent teeth without extractions. Narrow Palates: Ensuring proper jaw development and alignment. Unlike traditional expanders, Invisalign’s clear aligners provide a discreet and comfortable experience without the need for fixed metal appliances. Benefits of Invisalign Expanders Invisalign expanders offer several advantages compared to traditional methods: Discreet Appearance: The clear aligners are virtually invisible, making them a great choice for self-conscious patients. Enhanced Comfort: Made from smooth plastic, Invisalign aligners are more comfortable than metal expanders. Customizable: Designed specifically for each patient’s unique needs. Removability: Aligners can be taken out for eating, brushing, and flossing, promoting better oral hygiene. Effective Results: Achieves the same goals as traditional expanders without compromising aesthetics. Who Can Benefit from Invisalign Expanders? Invisalign expanders are suitable for many patients, including children, teens, and adults. They are particularly effective for patients with... --- Our team at Yang Orthodontics specializes in providing customized orthodontic solutions to create healthy, beautiful smiles. Among the many tools we utilize, traditional metal expanders play a vital role in treating certain orthodontic issues, especially in growing patients. This page explains what metal expanders are, how they work, and why they might be recommended for you or your child. How Do Metal Expanders Work? Metal expanders gradually apply gentle pressure to the upper jaw, encouraging the bones to widen over time. This process creates more space for proper tooth alignment and can correct issues like: Crossbites: When the upper teeth fit inside the lower teeth. Overcrowding: When there isn’t enough space for permanent teeth to come in. Narrow Palates: Ensuring proper jaw development for balanced facial symmetry. The treatment typically involves turning a small key to adjust the expander as directed by Dr. Yang. This step-by-step process is simple, effective, and carefully monitored to ensure optimal results. Benefits of Metal Expanders Metal expanders offer a range of benefits for orthodontic patients, including: Improved Bite Alignment: Corrects crossbites and other bite issues. Creates Space: Reduces the need for tooth extractions by making room for permanent teeth. Supports Jaw Growth: Promotes balanced development of the upper jaw. Shorter Treatment Time: In some cases, using an expander can reduce the length of overall orthodontic treatment. What to Expect During Treatment If a metal expander is recommended for you or your child, here is an overview of the treatment process: Consultation: Dr. Yang will... --- "*" indicates required fields Name* First Last PhoneEmail* Comments Δdocument. getElementById( "ak_js_1" ). setAttribute( "value", ( new Date ). getTime ); gform. initializeOnLoaded( function {gformInitSpinner( 1, 'https://orthodontistrwc. com/wp-content/plugins/gravityforms/images/spinner. svg', true );jQuery('#gform_ajax_frame_1'). on('load',function{var contents = jQuery(this). contents. find('*'). html;var is_postback = contents. indexOf('GF_AJAX_POSTBACK') >= 0;if(! is_postback){return;}var form_content = jQuery(this). contents. find('#gform_wrapper_1');var is_confirmation = jQuery(this). contents. find('#gform_confirmation_wrapper_1'). length > 0;var is_redirect = contents. indexOf('gformRedirect{') >= 0;var is_form = form_content. length > 0 && ! is_redirect && ! is_confirmation;var mt = parseInt(jQuery('html'). css('margin-top'), 10) + parseInt(jQuery('body'). css('margin-top'), 10) + 100;if(is_form){jQuery('#gform_wrapper_1'). html(form_content. html);if(form_content. hasClass('gform_validation_error')){jQuery('#gform_wrapper_1'). addClass('gform_validation_error');} else {jQuery('#gform_wrapper_1'). removeClass('gform_validation_error');}setTimeout( function { /* delay the scroll by 50 milliseconds to fix a bug in chrome */ jQuery(document). scrollTop(jQuery('#gform_wrapper_1'). offset. top - mt); }, 50 );if(window) {gformInitDatepicker;}if(window) {gformInitPriceFields;}var current_page = jQuery('#gform_source_page_number_1'). val;gformInitSpinner( 1, 'https://orthodontistrwc. com/wp-content/plugins/gravityforms/images/spinner. svg', true );jQuery(document). trigger('gform_page_loaded', );window = false;}else if(! is_redirect){var confirmation_content = jQuery(this). contents. find('. Keep in mind that they are often designed and recommended for teenagers and adults whose permanent teeth have come in. Because clear braces are harder than natural teeth, you have to be careful if you want ceramic braces on the lower teeth. Biting on the hard ceramic braces can cause your teeth to quickly wear down. Consult with your trusted orthodontist to know whether you’re a perfect fit for ceramic braces. At Yang Orthodontics, most patients that can be treated with metal braces usually have the option for clear braces as well. Are Ceramic Braces Right for You? Before you get fitted for clear braces, your orthodontist will need to examine you to know if it’s a good option for you. The following criteria would help determine whether ceramic braces are the right choice: Effectiveness Your orthodontist takes note of your orthodontic problems before deciding on a treatment. Generally speaking though, ceramic braces are effective for teens and adults with strong and mature teeth. Comfort Ceramic braces are small and smooth for a comfortable fit. The brackets also have rounded corners that reduce irritation of your gums, lips, and cheeks. Convenience Unlike Invisalign aligners that need to be removed every time you eat; ceramic braces are always worn. Maintenance isn’t difficult either. Normal brushing and flossing are enough. Allowing your appliance to remain damaged for an extended period of time may result in disruptions to your treatment plan. General Soreness Tooth soreness is common in the first few days after your braces are adjusted or when you switch to a new Invisalign® aligner. This discomfort is normal, and it should get better by day 3 or 4 and usually goes away within a week. We recommend eating soft foods during this period and rinsing your mouth with warm salt-water a few times a day. To make the salt water rinse, dissolve one teaspoonful of salt in eight ounces of warm water, and rinse your mouth vigorously. Or another alternative (and better tasting) is the Healthy Gums Rinse by The Natural Dentist. You can also rub Orabase (available in pharmacies) on the affected area to relieve discomfort. If the tenderness is severe, take Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or whatever you normally take for headache or similar pain. Taking Aspirin, Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) or Naproxen Sodium (Naprosyn, Anaprox) can work also, but prolonged use can actually slow down your tooth movement. Your lips, cheeks, and tongue may also become irritated for one to two weeks as they learn a new posture and become accustomed to the surface of the braces. You can put wax on the braces to lessen this. Just break off a small piece of the wax and roll it up into a... --- At Yang Orthodontics, we are dedicated to providing quality, comfortable, convenient and individualized care to every patient, at each visit, starting with the initial consultation. Check out some amazing results from patients treated by Dr. Yang! --- How We Address Common Orthodontic Problems Overbite The upper teeth protrude further than the lower teeth and may completely cover them. Can be hereditary or caused by certain habits children may develop such as thumb-sucking and prolonged bottle-feeding. Underbite Lower front teeth overlap the upper front teeth. The main cause of an underbite is a misalignment of the lower jaw, which can be present at birth or grow into. Crossbites This is when some of the upper teeth close inside the lower teeth rather than the outside. This can form for a variety of reasons. Although a crossbite can be genetic, reasons such as prolonged use of a pacifier or thumb-sucking, delayed loss of baby teeth, and oversized tonsils or adenoids can be the source of a crossbite. Anterior Crossbite Some lower front teeth bite in front of the upper front teeth. Posterior Crossbite Some upper back teeth biting inside of lower back teeth. Open Bite An open bite occurs when the upper and lower teeth do not meet when the person bites down. When a person closes their jaw, the front teeth will have a gap or opening. Deep Bite Excessive vertical overlap of the upper and lower front teeth when biting. Crowding Misalignment of teeth caused by lack of space. Crowded teeth can make it difficult to brush and floss well which can then lead to tooth decay and gum disease. Spacing Refers to gaps or space between teeth which causes the teeth to not fit normally in... --- What Are the Different Parts of Braces? Elastic Tie Small rubber band that fits around the bracket to hold the archwire in place. Archwire The main metal wire that is attached to your brackets to move your teeth. Arch wire adjustments exert pressure on the teeth and are responsible for the ongoing repositioning of teeth toward proper alignment. The wire is changed often during the treatment process as teeth move to their new positions. Elastic (Rubber Band) Small rubber band that is hooked between different points on the appliance to provide pressure to move the teeth. Brackets Small square-shaped pieces which hold and support the archwire in place. Brackets may be attached to an orthodontic band or cemented directly to the tooth surface. Headgear Tube Round, hollow attachment on the back bands. The inner bow of the headgear fits into it. Coil Spring This fits between brackets and over archwire to open space between teeth. Tie Wire Fine wire that is twisted around the bracket to hold the archwire in place. Band A thin ring of metal fitted around a tooth and cemented in place. The band provides a way to attach the brackets to the tooth. Hook Welded or removable arm to which elastics (rubber bands) are attached. Hope this helps! Well, think again! The American Association of Orthodontics estimates that 27% of orthodontic patients are adults. Another statistic states that one-third of the people in the U. S. are not happy with their teeth -- and a good way to correct many smile-related problems is by using Braces or Invisalign. Here are more reasons to choose orthodontics, even if you're an adult. Makes You Confident A good set of teeth gives a nice smile that you'd want to flaunt to the world. And with that comes the confidence to meet new people and to enhance your social network. It can impact your mental health in a big way, as well. When you smile more, you'll be a lot less stressed. If you're struggling to feel confident with your smile, it's possible that clear braces can help you. Improves Oral Health When you have crooked teeth, there's a higher chance for cavities to form the hidden places that are hard to reach with a brush. As a result, you could experience dental discomfort or even bad breath. When cavities form and go unaddressed, this can lead to more serious problems like tooth decay and gum problems. Instead of making multiple visits to dentists and an orthodontist for adults, you're better off fixing the root cause with the right orthodontic braces. Helps with Chewing When you have misaligned teeth, it'll be difficult to chew your food properly. In turn, this can impact... --- A nice smile goes a long way in boosting your self-confidence and enhancing how people view you. As such, people have gone the extra mile to correct malpositioned teeth and jaws. And did you know that more than 25% of orthodontic patients are adults? There are numerous ways to straighten your teeth, but Invisalign treatment is the only option that is free of brackets and wires. You don’t have to worry about sharp edges that keep pricking your lips and gums whenever you are enjoying your favorite dish. What’s more, the trays are custom-made to fit your mouth. Remember to consult your family orthodontist to ensure you undergo a treatment that meets your unique needs. Saves You Time Frequent visits to the orthodontist can be time-consuming with braces. With braces, you need to be seen every 6-8 weeks for adjustments. With Invisalign treatment, as long as you are wearing your aligners as directed, you would only need to be seen every 8-12 weeks. The Invisalign treatment method saves you time, unlike other traditional options that require you to visit orthodontists more frequently. Removable and Safe If you enjoy sports and still want to have straight teeth, then Invisalign is a perfect option for you. You can enjoy whatever sport like without worrying about sharp edges that cause discomfort to your mouth. You can also opt to remove them... --- Sleep apnea is a type of sleep disorder in which breathing stops and starts repeatedly due to something obstructing or blocking the upper airway. This can be potentially dangerous because it keeps a person's body from getting the oxygen they need while resting, putting the person at risk for health problems. For kids, in particular, sleep apnea can cause learning, behavior, growth, and heart problems. But how do you know if your child has sleep apnea, and what can you do to treat it? What are the signs of sleep apnea in children? One of the most common signs your child has sleep apnea is that they snore. Snoring is caused when the muscles in the roof of your mouth, tongue, and throat relax. While snoring itself isn't always an indication that something is wrong, it can be a sign that the muscles relaxing in the throat are obstructing your child's airflow as they sleep. Other symptoms of sleep apnea in kids include: Having a hard time waking up Falling asleep or being tired throughout the day Difficulty paying attention due to lack of energy Poor grades in school Chronic mouth breathing Chronic mouth breathing is not only a symptom of sleep apnea but it can also cause its own problems. A child who is forced to breathe through their mouths due to a nasal obstruction caused by large tonsils, a deviated septum, or other issues may experience a shifting in their lower and upper jaws. This can cause an... --- According to the American Association of Orthodontists, one-third of people in the U. S. are unhappy with their teeth, and it's no surprise why. Having a nice smile can boost your self-esteem and may even help you get ahead in your career, which is why 25% of all orthodontic patients are actually adults. But just how does having a nice smile actually affect your self-esteem? And how does it impact your career options and ability to succeed? Here, we'll take a look at how orthodontics can play a positive role not only in your appearance but also in your life. Develop clearer communication People who feel confident about their teeth and their smiles are more likely to succeed both in relationships and in their careers. There's a reason for that. When you're not focused on hiding your smile or covering up your laugh, you're more likely to speak clearly, enjoy conversations, and open up to people. Clear, open communication makes you more engaging. What's more, when you feel comfortable enough to smile without worrying about how you look, you seem more confident and approachable to other people, including employers. Become more outgoing When you're worried about the flaws in your smile, you're more likely to be closed off and pull away from others. This creates a cycle of low self-esteem that can lead to loneliness. Improving your smile with braces or Invisalign® for adults could help give you the self-esteem you need to become more open and engaging. Getting involved... --- According to the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), more than one-third of Americans are not happy with their smiles due to poor jaw and/or teeth alignment. A smile is the first thing that most people notice when interacting with strangers. A proud smile will make anyone confident in social and professional settings. Invisalign treatment fixes teeth alignment. Invisalign First specializes in offering the treatment to kids, setting them up for a confident life full of smiles. Read on to learn more about the program and its benefits. What is Invisalign First? Invisalign First is a treatment aimed at kids when they have lost four to ten teeth. The goal is to develop the dental arches and make space for teeth to erupt. Invisalign First is designed to straighten your child's teeth while fixing issues such as crowding, narrow dental arches, and bad spacing. The child's orthodontist will ensure that the aligners are easy to remove and clean. The orthodontists who design such aligners ensure that kids can take them off easily without the help of an adult. Additionally, they check that they can clean them easily on their own. Invisalign First is more comfortable than braces or expanders in many ways because there are no poking wires or sharp edges. Target Demographic The Invisalign First program targets children between the ages of seven and nine for orthodontic treatment. At this stage, children still have their baby teeth or are in the process of losing them. According to the American Association... --- Social distancing, working from home, and frequent hand sterilization are slowly becoming the new norm as the world fights the pandemic. Orthodontic practices have not been spared either. They are also implementing strict protocols in their operations as part of the gradual reopening of the economy. Limited operations under the Shelter-in-Place order enables Yang Orthodontics to continue serving existing and new clients for their orthodontic needs. Here are six reasons why we are seeing more patients coming in to see us despite Covid-19. 1. The ‘Zoom Syndrome’ The ‘new normal’ has brought a change in the workplace, with most staff working from their homes. Persons with misaligned teeth may feel increasingly self-conscious over the screens and prefer to hide their smiles during the zoom calls. Invisalign for adults is an attractive braces alternative that allows you to realign your teeth gradually. That way, you can smile confidently during your meetings. 2. Invisalign for Adults While at Home Did you know that over 25% of all persons seeking orthodontic treatments are 18 years and above? Most adults are self-conscious about wearing traditional ‘train-track’ metal braces in public. The stay at home period has allowed more adults to get braces and Invisalign aligners without the fear of having to spend the whole day wearing them in public. 3. Strict Adherence to COVID-19 Disinfection Protocols Your safety comes first at Yang Orthodontics. The team has participated in rigorous training on COVID-19 protocols to safeguard both the client and the staff from infections. Some... --- Although traditional braces were once seen as a necessary evil for a beautiful smile, that's no longer the case. Now, more than 70% of orthodontists throughout the U. S. and Canada are certified to treat with Invisalign braces -- allowing patients to achieve straight teeth without discomfort or undesirable aesthetics. But as popular as Invisalign is, this orthodontic treatment still raises a lot of questions for patients. And even though it's become significantly more accessible in recent years, some people still believe that Invisalign braces are too expensive or too much of a commitment for them to handle. The reality is that this treatment is one of the most effective ways to address many prevalent dental issues (and it's likely more affordable than you think). Let's take a look at the "tooth" behind some common Invisalign misconceptions below. MISCONCEPTION: Invisalign Braces Are Prohibitively Expensive A lot of patients will dismiss the idea of getting clear aligners because they assume this option is too expensive. The reality, however, is that Invisalign and traditional braces have comparable costs. And since many insurance policies do cover Invisalign, you may be able to incur lower out-of-pocket costs. Keep in mind that paying for clear aligners can also decrease your long-term dental and orthodontic costs; by taking care of problems now, your oral healthcare costs may end up being lower in the end. MISCONCEPTION: Invisalign Treatment Takes Too Long to Complete Some people believe that because Invisalign treatment involves receiving several sets of aligners, the... --- Teeth straightening through orthodontics is a life-changing experience. Misaligned teeth can suck away the joy and confidence to smile. You not only have to battle a shattered self-image but also halitosis and bad bites. Luckily, a visit to the orthodontist can help restore your beautiful smile, improve your oral hygiene, and give you a confidence boost. There has been a significant shift in the orthodontics industry, with recent technological advancements offering better solutions for teeth realignment. Modern orthodontic treatments are subtle, comfortable with shorter treatment spans than previous methods. Here are seven benefits you may enjoy after straightening your teeth. 1. Self-confidence Boost According to the American Association of Orthodontists, one in every three people in the nation is unhappy with their teeth. Crooked teeth can prevent you from smiling in a social gathering, slowly eroding your self-esteem. However, realigning your teeth can bring back the joy of smiling. Besides, orthodontic treatments such as Invisalign are subtle enough. They allow you to smile for the cameras without anyone realizing you have braces on. 2. Improved Oral Hygiene Brushing between misaligned teeth can be difficult. The perfect set of straightened teeth allow your brush bristles and floss to reach food particles hidden in between teeth spaces. Orthodontics may help improve your oral health and get rid of the persistent halitosis. 3. Prevent Tooth Decay Malocclusions are notorious for hiding food particles between the teeth. Poor oral hygiene supports harmful bacterial growth that leads to acid buildup. The acidity gradually erodes the... --- It is estimated that about one-third of the adult population in the US is not happy with their teeth. Invisalign braces are a system of clear trays that gently and quickly help to align your teeth perfectly. They give you quick results while helping you to avoid the stigma of traditional metal or clear braces. These trays are custom made for your teeth. There are some clear benefits to this orthodontic bracing system, like: They can be removed to eat and perform oral hygiene. Taking care of your teeth while you wear this bracing system is much easier than taking care of your teeth with traditional metal wire braces. You simply pop them out to brush and floss than put them right back in. The aesthetics. With Invisalign braces, it is nearly impossible to notice that you are wearing corrective gear. More adults (people 18 and over) are wearing braces. Invisalign aligners have transformed how adults feel about wearing braces and removed the stigma that was associated with wearing braces. Invisalign for adults is a clear bracing system that can correct a wide range of orthodontic issues. A lot of people make the error of thinking that braces are only for correcting aesthetic issues, but the reality is orthodontics including Invisalign braces are for the health of your teeth. Why Braces Can Be The Right Solution Misaligned teeth can cause headaches, jaw pain, and impede the quality of your life. Invisalign braces can help to correct these problems and help you to feel great. Of course, helping with headaches and jaw pain are only some of the reasons you should consider braces as an adult. The health of your teeth can be impacted greatly when you are struggling with misaligned teeth including: Difficulty in keeping your teeth free of cavities. Overcrowded teeth can be difficult to keep clean. Poor oral hygiene can lead to cavities. Uneven wear and tear on your teeth. S. wear braces. If you plan to wear braces, you’ll need to give your teeth more TLC than usual. This way, you avoid damaging your orthodontic appliance and protect your pearly whites from tooth decay, staining, and other oral health problems. Here are some ways you can keep braces in good shape and achieve a gorgeous smile: Change Your Eating Habits Although you’re wearing your braces, you need to steer clear of certain types of food that may damage your orthodontic device. Here are some: Hard Foods – Chewing on hard candies and pretzels may cause the bands or wires of your braces to break. If you’re after the nutritional value of hard fruits and vegetables, such as raw carrots and apples, cut these foods into smaller pieces. Sticky Foods – Dried fruit, caramel candies, and gummy bears can get stuck in your braces. Attempting to dislodge the food particle may cause the wires or bands to snap. Sugary Foods – Eating foods and beverages loaded with processed sugar, such as sodas, cakes, pies, and ice cream, may ruin both your teeth and braces.
